The EU agreed the pact with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro and the U.N. mission in Kosovo.  The pact is intended to allow airlines to fly freely within the area, without limitations set previously under state-by-state bilateral agreements.

ECAA would also improve safety standards, boost competition and establish similar rights for consumers, the European Commission said.

Railway in Bulgaria: High speed rail plans
FT Business, 10th May 2006
The Bulgarian cabinet approved on April 27 2006 a draft agreement on the construction of a high-speed railway network in South East Europe. The document regulates co-operation among the countries in the region in railway transport and envisages the building of a prime-quality high-speed network of 16 railway lines for cargo and passenger transport. Five of them will run across Bulgaria, passing through Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna, Bourgas, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Vidin and Rousse. The railway lines in South East Europe, the quality of which will be high enough to be included in the high-speed network, as part of the Trans-European Network, the Pan-European Corridors or the South-East railways, will permit speeds of 160km/h, reaching 220km/h in some sections, by 2020.

You can't lose from Bulgaria property investment
International Herald and Tribune, 5th May 2006
Anyone who has bought property in Bulgaria will tell you that the prices are so low, it is impossible to lose, Matthew Brunwasser wrote in an article for International Herald Tribune. Prices will continue to rise. The only uncertainty is by how much. And for how long, the article continues. The Balkan country already has had 12 years of increases. And the National Statistical Institute reported in January that the average sales price per square meter for residential properties in Bulgarian cities had gone up 36.6 percent in the previous year. But residential prices in Sofia still average only EUR 600, or USD 717, per square meter. That is much less than the EUR 750 average per square meter in Bratislava, Slovakia; EUR 850 in Bucharest and EUR 1,500 in Prague, according to the National Real Property Association of Bulgaria. Those numbers have pushed Bulgaria squarely into the real estate spotlight, attracting West Europeans lured by the current hot place for vacation homes and for investment. And real estate agencies from small European countries like Ireland and Malta have recently opened offices in Bulgaria in an effort to expand their businesses. Foreigners were involved in 27 percent of the 220,000 property deals registered in Bulgaria in 2005, transactions that totalled more than EUR 4 billion, according to the property association. The year before they generated 18 percent of all sales, or EUR 3.36 billion. Overall, real estate is one of the fastest growing sectors in the Bulgarian national economy, which grew by 5.2 percent in 2005. Observers
